2. International Student Tax Exemption - Refund of Social Security and Medicare Taxes - F1 Practical Training J1 Tax Refund
International Students are exempt from Social Security and Medicare Taxes for a period of Five years as long as they are full time students. If their Social Security and Medicare Taxes are withheld by their employer by mistake, they can claim a refund, by filing Form 843 on F1, OPT Practical Training, J1 Foreign Student taxes.

3. International Student Form 1040NR Standard Deductions - F1 OPT H1B L1 Tax Standard Deductions - 1040NR Standard Deductions
International Students cannot claim Standard Deductions in Form 1040NR. Refer to IRS Publication 519.
The Exception to this rule applies to Students and Business Apprentices from India based on Article 21(2)of United States-India Tax Treaty.
